Staff
Each member will be provided with a Secretary, Typist, K.K.S. and a Driver. For
these appointments, salaries will be paid as follows :

These appointments are on temporary basis and once they are appointed from
the Public Service, they should be released from the Public Sector. Their
salaries will be reimbursed by this Ministry. For the appointment of the driver
will be done after obtaining the copies of his driving license along with the respective member's recommendation. Their appointments will be valid until the end of the tenure of the members in the Parliament or if the member feels the service is not required it should be informed to this Ministry and the appointment will be terminated without prior notice. The temporary staff is not entitled for a pension and the
payment of 20% of their total monthly salary in to number of calendar months
will be paid as the gratuity at the end of their service. In addition to these
four, one Post Graduate Project Assistant can be appointed from the Public Service or from a Private Corporation Statutory body.
Identity Card
This Ministry issues identity cards to Personal Staff of the Hon. MPPs for their
period of service. After terminating the service those identity cards should be returned to the
Ministry to claim the gratuity.
Research Assistant
Approval of the Cabinet has been received for the appointment to the post of
Research Assistant in the Personal Staff of Hon. Members of Parliament in
compliance with the following conditions which are different from the
recruitment criteria existed so far.
- The appointee shall be a graduate holding a permanent post in any of the
Public or Provincial Public services and Govt. Comparatives / Statuary bodies other than All Island Managerial
Services.
- The salary of the graduates so appointed shall be reimbursed by the
Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs.
- Performance of the Research Assistants shall be evaluated with the assistance of
the relevant Member of Parliament bi-annually by the Ministry of
Parliamentary Affairs.
In the event of the MP feels the services of such appointee is no longer
required or the tenure of the MP concerned expires, the Research Assistant
should be released in his/her substantive post.
